May 18, 2008 - DCA's Longbow Warmup Shoot

It was a pleasant, bordering on hot day, but a cool breeze (most of the time) , plus good BBQ sandwiches and lots of cold drinks kept us going.  A really good turnout of shooters, since we were competing with the Chester shoot this same weekend.  As usual, we all had a great time and may have recruited another lady archer (Debbie, I'm talkin' to YOU :-)) into the sport!  Louis, we know you wanted your trophy to "look bigger" but next time, don't hide your face with it!  Michael Smith (son of Todd) is going to be VERY proud of his new longbow custom made for him by Mr. Bob Lutkenhaus....Some lucky shooters who stuck it out til the end won some VERY nice doorprizes!

Martha and Dusty participated in the Memphis TBoT Shoot May 3 & 4 and Dusty won the fun shoot (40 yards, closest to hit the dime sized spot on the target, wins that target).  It was fun driving 5 hours home with the top down and a deer target riding along with us in the back seat - maybe we should have strapped the whole thing onto the hood for better effect?

Meet Private Taylor Pettijohn, son of past DCA President, Arthur Pettijohn, At Ft. Jackson, just after he graduated from basic training April 4, 2008.  Talor, who qualified as Expert Marksman on the Rifle Range, will be taking advanced training in the Army's 25B information technology program.  Congratulations, Taylor, we know your folks are proud!

February 10, 2008 - DCA's TBoT Shoot - We couldn't have ORDERED prettier weather for the FIRST Traditional Bowhunters of Texas shoot in the entire Lone Star State.  Folks came from as far away as Galveston to participate!  The guys who laid out the course set some pretty challenging (read: LONG) shots to kick off the TBoT season,  that was for sure!  Special thanks to all DCA members who helped get the range ready, thanks as always to Bud Murphy, N. Texas rep for TBoT,  and his intrepid helpers, Billy Sandlin and Shelly Holt, for helping us make this successful.  And VERY special thanks to Mary Alice Helman for (wo)maning the food service!  We were thrilled to see our own Lloyd Hensley supervising from his chair, only a month after quintuple heart bypass surgery!  So what was your excuse for not coming out?  :-).

We warmed up, we cooked, we shot...we enjoyed being outside!

Thanks to the Helman family for sending their 0wn pics from the shoot!  Anyone with photos is encouraged to send some for publication on our website - please do

We "allowed" one compound shooter to shoot the range (no score turned in and we made him pay :-)) - he was thrilled to hit a 10X from about 70 yards away!

Shooters anxiously awaited score postings....And Bud awarded the first TBoT prize buckles of the '08 season.

ONE winner was a leetle TOO thrilled to get his buckle - ahem!  note Bud's expression in the first pic - priceless!  The name of the "thrilled" shooter will not be provided to protect his family's and his personal reputation!  Note, Freddy Crowder showed his excitement a little more appropriately :-).  A good time was had by all!
